I can't believe that 6 months have gone buy since I've posted anything here but here we go again. Please read on...
Other than the visit of my daughter, Alexis, in January and our trips to Kano to see another Durbar and a trip to a mountain resort called the Obudu Cattle Ranch, life here has fallen into a routine and I'm a combination of somewhat bored and settled into a new life. The Durbar (see previous posting and pictures) is a world class event and I would urge anyone who'd like to see West Africa to come to Nigeria to see it. It is very exciting and the people are very friendly. The Obudu Cattle ranch was very nice. It sits in the mountains bordering Cameroon and is a great palce for hiking and relaxing.
I just got back from a little vacation in Ghana. Ghana is very nice and it's hard to believe it's only a few hundred miles from Nigeria. The difference is that Ghana has electricity all the time, no Okada (those pesky motorbikes, which must number in the millions in Nigeria), is clean and the people drive in a civilized manner. The Ghanians are friendly and helpful but I think that Nigerians are more openly friendly.
We stayed at La Palm Beach Hotel where, for the most part, we vegetated around the swimming pool but we did hire a car one day and drove 3 hours down the coast where we visited the old slave trading centers, Elmina Castle and Cape Coast Castle were two of the major slave depots in Ghana. They are very interesting to visit and the local towns are very picturesque (see photo album). We had a fantastic lunch of fresh fish as we watched the fishermen unload there boats on the beach.
Well now that I finally got that under my belt, I'll try to keep this blog more up to date.
